Although we have successfully trained students who have become recipients of prestigious music scholarships. and some have also become concert pianists, adjudicators, jazz and pop musicians, professional accompanists, music therapists and music teachers.- the primary EMPHASIS has always been on ENJOYING MUSIC and the LOVE OF PLAYING THE PIANO
Director – Gloria Jordan
Gloria comes from a family of professional musicians and music teachers over many generations. Her teaching studio has been established for over 35 years and it has achieved a high reputation in Australia and overseas
Many of Gloria’s past and present students have won prestigious music scholarships and eisteddfods. They have become adjudicators, examiners, classical/jazz/pop musicians, professional accompanists, music therapists and music teachers. One past student wrote the music score for a recently released movie and is permanently based in USA as a sought after composer.
However, Gloria’s main EMPHASIS has always been to instil the love of music and encourage students to enjoy music-making with family and friends.
Having studied piano technique and teaching philosophies from many countries, including Russia, and with an artistic background in ballet, ballroom dancing, acting and musical theatre, Gloria is able to provide a unique and exciting approach to music for students aged 3 to 80+ !
Gloria has gained a reputation with her ENRICHMENT lessons where outside students enrol for a few specialised coaching lessons in piano, or prior to an exam, competition or scholarship audition.
Gloria’s daughter, international concert pianist Rebecca Chambers with renowned trumpeter James Morrison, performing their own shorter rendition of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” for piano at the Australia Day National Awards ceremony, where Rebecca was presented by Prime Minister Paul Keating with the prestigious award of “Young Australian of the Year, 1996”.
Rebecca has performed on four continents, including performing a Mozart Piano Concerto as soloist with a New York Symphony Orchestra at the Lincoln Centre, after winning first prize in the prestigious Panasonic Mozart Competition in New York
Gloria’s daughter, Luci, has performed with Rebecca in piano trios and many works for piano and violin. Luci is an Examiner in violin for the Australian Music Examinations Board in Queensland. She is a brilliant violinist and teacher. Her students have won scholarships, and auditions for major orchestras.
"I started my lessons with Gloria from a very young age and I stayed a constant pupil through to my senior high school years. Gloria always made an effort to make my lessons fun and enjoyable. Her music knowledge guided me to play each piece of work authentically but I was also encouraged to play the piece from the heart; embellishing and adding emotion to portray to the audience what that piece of music made me feel. Gloria understood the importance of performing and always encouraged me to enter competitions and recitals. One memorable one was my school music competition. Gloria helped me curate the piano pieces I was to play, learn them and finesse them, which won me second prize as a soloist in the Senior Music Competition at my prestigious private school Ivanhoe Grammar School. I feel that those performances have helped my confidence now to sit at any piano and play whatever comes to mind whether someone is listening or not - an airport, a cafe, a library, or an art gallery. My two favourite composers are Chopin and Debussy.
Gloria solidified my love of piano and classical music and she has been an amazing friend long after my days of sitting at her piano, on the stool, warming up my fingers with scales before ploughing into my lesson. Thank you, Gloria, for those wonderful years, and the memories."
